Shaun Juniper, joint managing director of property developer Juniper Group, will be competing in one of Asia’s biggest motor sport events this weekend.
Mr Juniper, who competed in Germany’s gruelling Nürburgring 24 endurance race in June, will soon be back behind the wheel when he tackles Malaysia’s prestigious 12-Hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MME).
An experienced motor sport driver, he will race his brand new Porsche 997 RSR at the MME alongside his team-mates, reigning Australian Carrera Cup champion Craig Baird and Paul Kelly from New Zealand.
Mr Juniper said he could not wait to get behind the wheel of the Porsche, a race-only model developed especially for the GT2 championship and endurance racing.
“Craig and his team drove a Porsche 997 RSR to an outstanding 12th place at Nürburbring and we’re determined that the Juniper 997 RSR will make a similar strong showing in Malaysia,” he said.
The Juniper Porsche 997 RSR is one of only 35 hand built in the Porsche factory located in Germany. According to Porsche, the new car is seven percent more efficient than its predecessor.
A full grid of 77 cars and 231 drivers will line up for the MME, which is raced on the iconic Sepang Circuit, the home of the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix.
Each team has three members who must race their vehicle around the 5.543km track for at least 70 minutes each before switching drivers throughout the 12-hour event.
Mr Juniper said his passion for competing in motor sport events was an ideal way of raising the profile of the Juniper Group in overseas markets.
He is currently a competitor in the Australian Carrera Cup championship and competes in tarmac rallies.
The 2007 12-Hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race will be held at Sepang Circuit on August 25.
Mr Juniper’s company is behind the $850 million, 77-storey Soul Surfers Paradise development on the Gold Coast, the largest private, single-tower construction project ever awarded in Australia.
