The top end of the luxury residential property market continues to grow, with an undisclosed buyer paying $8.7 million for a sub-penthouse at Juniper Group’s Soul Surfers Paradise.
The sub-penthouse deal is the latest in a string of multi-million-dollar sales for the 77-storey Soul tower, with a Queensland businessman setting an Australian record price for a unit when he paid $16.85 million for the Soul super penthouse last year.
The super penthouse record followed shortly after the sale of an apartment on Soul’s 68th level for $7.8 million, the Gold Coast’s equal top price at the time.
Other stand-out Soul sales in recent months include:
• a two-storey sky-home for $5.1 million; and
• Brisbane businessman Mike Sherrin’s purchase of a $5.4 million custom-designed apartment.
Juniper Marketing Manager David Kortlang said the sales were a clear indication that top-end buyers were becoming increasingly attracted to prestigious Queensland properties.
“Along with Sydney, Surfers Paradise now holds pride of place as Australia’s home of prestige property and deservedly competes with international cities such as Miami, Dubai and New York in terms of price and desirability,” he said.
“Every effort has been made to ensure Soul is known for opulence, luxury and class, and sales such as this would indicate that we have achieved that.
“The market is telling us that people want to live in prestigious properties and there’s no doubt that Soul is one of the most prestigious, not only in Australia but also the world.”
The $8.7 million sub-penthouse, which is on Soul’s 63rd floor, features four bedrooms and spectacular ocean and hinterland views, with outlooks to both the north and south along the Gold Coast.
The sale was negotiated by Juniper Gold Coast Sales Team Leader Amanda Conduit.
Mr Kortlang said Juniper’s Soul Sub-Penthouse Collection provided an exclusive opportunity for people to experience a standard of exceptional high-rise apartment living.
He said high quality appliances and finishes had been incorporated into the sub-penthouse designs, including towering ceilings and contemporary lighting that highlighted the designer fittings.
“Media rooms, bars, generously proportioned living spaces, extraordinarily large dining areas and wide galleries are features in some or all of the sub-penthouses,” he said.
Soul, which will rise more than 240m above the world-famous Surfers Paradise beach, is scheduled to commence construction this year with the first stage expected to settle in late 2010.
It will also include a $100 million multi-level retail component in the best beachfront location in one of the country’s premier shopping precincts.
Soul is the showpiece development of the privately owned Juniper Group, a fully integrated, award-winning company that boasts more than $2 billion worth of projects and strategic property holdings currently under or scheduled for future construction.
