COCONUT GROVE TO ADD STYLISH NEW RETAIL HUB TO MACROSSAN STREET

The under-construction Coconut Grove resort is set to create a new retail and dining precinct for the signature style strip of tropical North Queensland – Macrossan Street in Port Douglas.

Coconut Grove developer Juniper has officially launched the 1,500 sqm retail component of the new $45 million resort, which will feature 33 luxury apartments over four levels.

Preliminary works on the 5,000 sqm Coconut Grove site commenced early this year, with completion of the project scheduled for April 2008. Already, 21 apartments have been sold off the plan.

Shaun Juniper, joint managing director of Juniper, said the demand for apartments has been matched by the strong interest in the project's street-level retail space.

"Macrossan Street is the retail and dining capital of tropical North Queensland and an international-standard destination in its own right," he said.

"Coconut Grove will come to life on one of the best sites on the strip and will complement and enhance the area's existing reputation by creating a new hub for upmarket retailers and dining outlets."

Juniper is targeting a stylish mix of retailers, restaurants and cafes to lease space at Coconut Grove, with demand already strong due to the lack of new, quality new premises on Macrossan Street.

 "Macrossan Street is a defined precinct characterised by strong demand and limited supply. Given this, and the outstanding location and design of Coconut Grove, we are confident of delivering a vibrant new mix of world-class retailers and dining outlets that will add to the overall Macrossan Street experience," Mr Juniper said.
Coconut Grove's terrace and penthouse apartments offer expansive recreation areas with private plunge pools, spas and built-in BBQs.
The development, located in central Macrossan Street just 140 metres from Four Mile Beach, also includes on-site management and undercover car park for approximately 100 cars.
The integrated Juniper property group is one of Australia's largest privately-owned development companies, with more than $2 billion worth of projects currently under, or scheduled for future, construction on the eastern seaboard.

The company previously developed the Saltwater apartment and retail complex on Macrossan Street and last year opened the $125 million Sea Temple Resort & Spa Port Douglas.
